Getting around Kangaroo Island (map & drive times)

 

Stay near Vivonne Bay for quick access to the dunes, bushland and the calm Harriet River. Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes’ drive from the Penneshaw ferry to Vivonne Bay and around 50 minutes to Kingscote. Hiring a car gives you the flexibility to explore at your own rhythm.

Ride a Yamaha Viking Buggy

Head into Little Sahara’s inland dunes with an experienced guide. Koala sightings are guaranteed on every buggy tour. Choose from 50, 110 or 170 minutes. All safety gear is included: seatbelts, roll cage, helmets and goggles. Your guide will be your driver.

Follow your guide along the riverbanks and across sand on electric fat bikes built for all terrains. Duration: 110 minutes. Minimum height: 120 cm. If you know how to ride a bike, you’re set. Helmets and gloves included.

Beekeeping Experience

Put on a beekeeping suit and step up close with KI Ligurian Bee Co for a 90-minute, hands-on session. Learn how a hive works, hold frames full of bees and see the honey-making process in real time. Small group sizes keep it relaxed and easy to ask questions.

Bookings: Popular sessions like after-hours koala walks, quad safaris and e-fat bike tours fill quickly, especially in busy seasons. Book ahead to secure the day and time you want.

Getting here: Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes to drive from Penneshaw to Vivonne Bay. Self-drive is the easiest way to link several Kangaroo Island activities into one day.

What to wear: Wear closed-in shoes for all tours, long pants for quad biking and sun protection year-round. We provide wet-weather gear when conditions change.
